Welcome to the Pawn Shop: Week 12

Well, another group goes down. Week 11 hit us hard with the injury bug and even worse on the home stretch to the play offs. Alas, this is what the Pawn Shop is here for. Just when you think your down, there is that piece, which just shines like a beam of holy light. This week there are a few guys that are now going to get their shot. So, as the season winds down the additions become even more important, as each week that the trade deadlines pass means we must add the right players the first time.

I’m sure you enjoy the small talk, but let’s get into the featured pieces in the Pawn Shop for week 12.

Wendell Smallwood

With the Eagles backfield taking a few hits on Sunday, Sproles (rib) and Mathews (knee), Mr. Smallwood is the next man up. While the severity of the injuries are still not clear, Smallwood has shown he has the big play ability in both the rushing and pass catching game. If either back that was injured on Sunday will miss week 12, Smallwood will see a healthy bump in his workload. If both backs miss time we could be in for a great plug and play match up against the depleted Packers defence. Smallwood is only 2.4% owned and should be added in all formats Wednesday morning.

Tyler Boyd

A hot name in draft season who turned into a fizzle (Steve, it is a thing) up to week 11, is now going to be thrust into a great opportunity with AJ Green missing for at a minimum a few weeks if not the remainder of the season and Gio Bernard done for the year. There is a large portion of the target share that will need to go somewhere. I look for Boyd to see the biggest uptick and continue to build on his breakout performance with 6 for 54 and TD this past week. Boyd is only 5.3% owned and with the Bengals’ injuries on Sunday, he will be a key piece of this offence.

Dion Lewis

He’s back. Yes, in week 11 we saw our first glimpse of Dion Lewis in over a year, and he looked great. Lewis provides something the Patriots are lacking. Yes, I know, what can an 8-2 team be lacking? Lewis provides that backfield the element of surprise, rather than being predictable, as everyone knows Blount runs the ball and White catches passes. Lewis is a dual threat back who has the ability to make people miss whether running routes, or carrying the ball. Dion Lewis is 45% owned and is a great addition in these times of RB needs.

Mike Gillislee

Gillislee made the most of his opportunity Sunday when McCoy left with a thumb injury. Gillislee may get the opportunity to shine against the Jaguars on Sunday, should McCoy miss the game. First reports came out that McCoy should be ok, but since the news has become a little less clear. We have seen already this year Gillislee is up to the task when given the opportunity, and should he get that shot Sunday you will want to make sure he is on your roster. Gillislee is only 26.2% owned and may be sitting around after waivers clear Wednesday morning.

Adam Thielen

I know, I know. Who wants to trust Sam Bradford’s second WR right? Thielen has continued to show why he is a start-able fantasy WR. He only has 2 games this year with under 5.5 points and will continue to be involved in this offence. As we continue to see players go down for the season Thielen is a weekly flex play. While the Vikings have very few bright spots on offence Thielen is a favourite target for Bradford and can be trusted on a weekly basis. Thielen is 4.6% owned and will most likely wait for you comes Wednesday morning.

Austin Hooper

I know a TE making the waiver column. With Tamme having season ending surgery, Hooper will get a chance to shine in one of the most explosive offences in the NFL. Hooper has been a viable streaming options when Tamme has missed time. While the schedule ahead isn’t the easiest for Hooper the Falcons may find themselves playing from behind. Hooper has also shown the ability to get open and find the end zone. Hooper is only 4.6% owned and while get his chance to shine for the remainder of the season.

Here we come week 12, hopefully the shop has something to help bolster your roster for playoff greatness.
