Welcome to the Pawn Shop: Week 9

Every week I start to think that the shelves are starting to look barren, then the light gleaming in the front window of the Pawn Shop hits that player, just enough to make them shine. Some weeks, it is due to the carnage of the injury bug, other weeks it’s due to a big performance.

Well, this week it is due to a few guys that have been here for a while, maybe even something you traded in previously. This week there are a few guys that could have some serious impact for the rest of the season. So ‘stash now, laugh later’ is the motto for these guys. Well enough with the small talk, let’s check out the goods.

Charcandrick West

As more bad news continues to roll in for Jamaal Charles and Ware getting a concussion in Week 8, the Chiefs will turn to next man up Charcandrick West. West is also a dual role back and a player that can excel in a role with a larger opportunity. West, who had splash of brilliance in 2015, is the type of player you use your top waiver priority on. Even if Ware doesn’t miss any time, it doesn’t look good for Charles. Ware is only 7.3% owned, at get him while you can. West is only owned in 7.5% owned come Wednesday those numbers will skyrocket.

Robert Kelley
While we still aren’t sure what the extent of Matt Jones’ injury is, Robert Kelley showed us on Sunday that he has roster-worthy potential. With 21 attempts for 87 yards and a TD, if Jones were to miss any further time, Kelley is ready for the workload. Even with Jones’ pending return, what Kelley did with his opportunity vs. the Bengals has warranted him some opportunity regardless. Even with the Washington Football Team on bye, Kelley is a must add. Robert Kelley is currently 22.9% owned, but we all saw what he can do on the field Sunday.

J.J. Nelson

Well, with an underperforming WR core, it seems that changes are a brewing. Bruce Arians came out on Monday and anointed J.J., the newest starting WR. This leads to more snaps, which leads to more opportunity. Which, if Sunday is a glance of what we may get from a waiver claim…sign me up. Palmer seemed to already have a decent chemistry with Nelson and Nelson showed he’s up to the increase. Nelson is only 1.2% owned ……… for now.

Russell Shepard

The fantasy world wondered who would end up with the WR2 role…when Vincent Jackson landed on the IR. Well, it seems this is our guy, with TD receptions in back to back weeks this is a stash you want to get in on early. As the RB’s continue to end up on the injury report this will become an even more pass heavy offence giving Shepard’s value a nice bump even with the limited workload in the offence due to his importance to special teams. Shepard is 3.1% owned and can help get rid of the bye week blues.

James Starks

Well, good bye Kniles Davis and hello James Starks. Starks is now the RB to own for the Green Bay Packers. With Montgomery dealing with health issues of his own, and the releasing of Davis the packers would turn to the unproven Don Jackson and Montgomery to fill in. Now is the time to get Starks on your roster for the late season playoff push. While he is still a few weeks away from being on the field, add him now before it’s too late. Starks is 12.7% owned and now is the time to add him.

Kamar Aiken

“All by myself”, sorry for my singing but I may be on my own here. But with the Ravens now past their bye week, and Aiken seeing an uptick in his usage leading into the bye week. Aiken becomes an interesting option ROS, we saw last year that and he can be a consistent option and with the team playing from behind in most weeks, look for Flacco to take to the air which gives Aiken the upside we want from our Pawn Shop gems. Kamar Aiken is 5.3% owned and is a sneaky stash in deeper leagues.

Well, I hope you saw some stuff you liked, the shelves are a little full right now. I know, I know, most of it is junk right? That is what you say every week and now guys like Crowder and Pryor are must starts and you’re still sitting there trying to figure out what to do with Allen Robinson every week.

I’m not saying drop AR15…let’s be clear, what I’m saying is too many times waiver guys are “trash” and that’s simply not the case. This is a game of getting the most points not whose big name got the most points. So before you prioritize your claims stop by and visit the FLAFFL house chat on the Fantasy Life App and as always may your waiver claims turn to gold.
