Brandon's Week 9 Musts & Busts

Written by Brandon DePouw, @bdepouw09 on Twitter and @bdepoo on the Fantasy Life App

So I decided to take a mid-season vacation from this article and I do apologize. I am back now and ready to steer you in the right direction for Week 9. In Week 9 we will be missing quite a few players because of the bye weeks. In FLAFFL our 16 Team League I'm missing Lamar Miller and Gio Bernard this week so my RB's are Deandre Washington and Terron Ward....... So yeah deep leagues are tough but still the byes this week are terrible. Either way spot starts or a second opinion is always good when fighting for the playoffs, so let's get to it.

Quarterbacks:
Phillip Rivers vs. Tennessee Titans - Must
Dak Prescott @ Cleveland Browns - Must
Eli Manning vs. Philadelphia Eagles - Must
Derek Carr vs. Denver Broncos - Bust
Matthew Stafford @ Minnesota Vikings - Bust
Ryan Fitzpatrick @ Miami Dolphins - Bust

Key Must - Eli Manning
Coming out of the bye after all the scrutiny and underachieving the Giants have faced, it is in my belief that the Giants will come out of the bye rocking. The Eagles are currently ranked 5th against Quarterbacks, but I'm afraid that can be deceiving considering over the past  4 weeks they have yielded 8 touchdowns and average of 240 yards. Not huge numbers but I'm projecting Eli getting it done threw the air.

Key Bust - Matthew Stafford
After seeing what Cutler did to the Vikings defense on Monday night (which wasn't a lot but the fact he did do something) I've actually considered starting Stafford in some leagues. I don't expect Minnesota's Defense to play another game like they did against the Bears. There is a chance Matthew raids the air and has a monster day, but I'm willing to take the risk considering the Vikings haven't allowed an 18 point day for a QB this season

Running Backs:
Devontae Booker @ Oakland Raiders - Must
Latavius Murray vs Denver Broncos - Must
Jay Ajayi vs. New York Jets - Must
Todd Gurley vs. Carolina Panthers - Bust
Frank Gore @ Green Bay Packers - Bust
Isaiah Crowell vs. Dallas Cowboys - Bust

Key Must - Latavius Murray
This will be a tough match up for Murray and the Raiders, but one thing is certain... Denver is soft when it comes to the run and I believe Derek Carr has enough arm talent to keep the secondary on his toes. Carr is a bust for me this week but running the ball and controlling the clock will be key if the Raiders want a chance at home. If you got him I'd start him, because he's getting the rock!

Key Bust - Todd Gurley
Todd Gurley is without a doubt the Rams sole source of offense, and that's the problem. When you have a Quarterback like Case Keenum, I'd make him throw all day and shut the run. Even though the Panthers secondary is atrocious, the Carolina offense is going to put up points and force the game to be played through the air. If you have to start Gurley then you will, but if you have options, I'd consider the consequences.

Wide Receivers:
Jarvis Landry vs. New York Jets - Must
Tyrell Williams vs. Tennessee Titans - Must
Saint's Wide Outs @ San Francisco - Must
Raider's Wide Outs @ Denver Broncos - Bust
Marvin Jones @ Minnesota Vikings - Bust

Key Must - Tyrell Williams
First off you need to watch the status of Tyrell this week, is a little banged up but pretty sure he plays. Travis Benjamin is questionable and Williams has pushed forward as the top target in San Diego. With a very tasty match up against the Titans I see a big game running through Williams this week.

Key Bust - Both Busts
It was difficult to find busts this week so I'm taking the easy way out this week and going with the ones lining up against the top secondaries in the league.

Tight Ends:
Travis Kelce vs. Jacksonville Jaguars - Must
Eric Ebron @ Minnesota Vikings - Must
Gary Barnidge vs. Dallas Cowboys - Must
Delanie Walker @ San Diego Chargers - Bust
Jimmy Graham vs. Seattle Seahawks - Bust

Key Must - Eric Ebron
Ebron finally gets back and instantly makes an impact with 7 catches for 79 yards. Not a huge outing but enough to know that he's back and involved. The Vikings just offered up a 101 yards on 9 catches against the Bears last week. With all the top tight ends on bye, Ebron has to play tough match up or not.

Key Bust -  Jimmy Graham
The whole Seattle offense is a shit show and definitely not working. Jimmy has been more involved lately but other than the past two games against the Patriots the Bills have played tight ends very well.
